For my 15-day road trip through Las Vegas, the Grand Canyon, and California, I opted to bring just one carry-on luggage and a backpack, and I couldn’t be happier with that decision!
With the frequent moves from one accommodation to another and packing up the car every morning, I highly recommend packing only the essentials. Here's the ultimate list if you’re planning your trip during the summer.

Shorts, T-Shirts, and Sneakers: Comfort is key for those long hours in the car. I wore shorts and T-shirts for most of my road trip.
Jeans & Sweatshirt: Traveling along the Pacific coast means encountering cooler temperatures in Northern California. Packing a pair of jeans and a sweatshirt will ensure you stay comfortable during your visit.
One Dress (or One Shirt): You never know where the road might lead — perhaps to a luxurious dinner in Las Vegas or a theatre night in LA.
Hiking Shoes and Sport Clothes: My itinerary included hiking at the Grand Canyon and Yosemite National Park. Having the right gear was essential.
Swimwear, Beach Towel, and Flip-Flops: When driving through coastal cities like La Jolla, Laguna Beach, and Malibu, you’ll want to enjoy the sun and ocean.
Sunglasses and Cap: These are must-haves for driving through Nevada and the Death Valley.
Adapter Plugs for USA: While most accommodations offer USB plugs, it’s better to be safe and bring your adapter.
Packing light made my trip much more enjoyable, allowing for smooth transitions and more focus on the amazing experiences along the way!
